Opening: Thursday, April 25, 2024 | 6 pm

As part of the Gallery Weekend Berlin April 26 – 28
Fri and Sat 11 am – 7 pm
Sun 11 am – 5 pm

Taking place at 171 Ackerstraße in Berlin Mitte, 360° will feature site-specific stainless steel and wood sculptures alongside oil paintings with accents of silver and aluminum leaf by the Moldovan artist Irina Ojovan. In dialogue with each other and the gallery space, these works underscore the artist’s ongoing ability to explore corresponding themes in diverse media and her continued interest in formally investigating the relationships between art and architecture and colour and form.

Placed strategically in its corners, Ojovan’s sculptures prompt visitors to stand in the center of the gallery, turning, as the exhibition’s title suggests, 360° to view them. Referencing and mirroring the forms represented in her paintings as well as their own shapes, they embody the artist’s inclination to paint the same forms and the repetitiveness of her artistic process. Her paintings, inspiration for her sculptures, are like vibrant individuals, with their various lines and forms, each possessing their own distinct character and reflecting the changing light and moments in time, from the break of dawn to the onset of dusk. Together, they reflect each other, their surroundings, and Ojovan’s need to return again and again to the same forms over the past few years.
