LOOCK Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of Eva Mahn, one of the most important photographers to emerge from East Germany. Known for her deeply thoughtful engagement with identity, gender roles, and the aesthetics of everyday life within the GDR, Mahn has developed a distinctive visual language that bridges conceptual photography, portraiture, and performance.

To mark the beginning of this collaboration, the gallery will present the exhibition Eva Mahn – Fotografien 1982–1984, featuring a selection of vintage prints from a formative period in her career. Produced between 1982 and 1984, these works offer a rare and nuanced insight into East German visual culture and Mahn’s pioneering role within it.

Eva Mahn (*1947) lives and works in Halle (Saale), Germany. Her works have been exhibited, among others, in the Brandenburg Art Collections Cottbus, the Camera and Photography Museum Leipzig, the Goethe-Institut Brussels, the Archaeological Museum Yeni Tzami in Thessaloniki, the Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro, the Burg Galerie Halle (Saale), as well as the Kunstverein Talstrasse Halle (Saale).
